調和するダイニングテーブル

オリジナルプロダクトを考えるにあたって、ダイニングテーブルを選んだ理由。それは住空間において、人が集う中心となるスペースであり、最も大きな存在感を持つのがダイニングテーブルだからです。これまでのダイニングテーブルと言えば、同じ素材やデザインテイストを持った椅子などと共に構成されるダイニングセットが主流だったと思います。しかし、実際の暮らしの中では、様々な時代背景を持った家具やインテリアが混在しています。旅先で一目惚れし購入したものだったり、友人知人より譲り受けたものだったり。どれも大切な思い出や代え難い価値を持っています。そうやって時間をかけて集められた大小様々な家具や調度品たち。 それらの品々が持つ様々な個性が、心地よく響き合うような中心となる存在としてつくられたのがこの「ATLAS」Dining Table なのです。 「ATLAS」の構想段階において、あらゆる時代のデザインを参考に素材や形状を研究し分析しました。素材には椅子やテーブルに主に使用されてきた、木材、金属を使用しています。天板の上で行われる日々の生活において、歪まない、傾かないという大前提の機能に即しながらも様々な椅子との調和を考えデザインした結果、脚部には露出したT字の構造を施し、強度が必要な箇所には鉄板の幅を十分に使用し、その構造の必然性からくる形状がこのテーブルの特徴ともなっています。

We chose a dining table as our first original product because that represents the place where people gather around and has an important presence in homes. Up until now, dining tables were mostly sold in Japan as a dining set, with one table and four chairs made of the same material and with the same style. However, in our daily life, various furniture and interiors from different periods co-exist. Things bought by love at first sight during a trip, things taken over from friends—those have sentimental values related to memories. Various furniture and decoration items collected little by little in the course of time. Atlas Dining Table is conceived to become a center piece of a dining room where each interior item resonates with each other. When we conceived the design of this table, we studied and analyzed all design and materials of each epoch. We finally took wood and metal on because they are the most classic materials for tables and chairs through all ages. Lots of things will happen around this table that will accompany the everyday life of a family, so it should not be warped nor tilted. While respecting those most important functions, we also paid attention to the quality of being in harmony with various types of chairs. As the result of all those considerations, we designed the legs in a T shape with exposed structures, and wider iron strips where strength is needed, to give to the table its singular characteristic.
